Workshop Description:
The JMT Team will discuss the data collection, design, implementation, monitoring, and adaptive management of the Eccleston Restoration project, a project occurring on the upper reaches of the Jones Falls, a Maryland iconic trout fishery in Baltimore County. The project aims to preserve and enhance the brown trout fishery and prepare the site for a future day when possibly brook trout may live there again. Because the site was an active Use III stream with documented trout presence, special data assessment, design, and monitoring efforts were required to balance impact of the existing forest and fishery with the needs for thermal regulation. A floodplain restoration approach was utilized to gain the greatest access to hyporheic exchange and suitable spawning substrates. Extensive agency and stakeholder coordination was required to make this project a reality, along with a rigorous and far-reaching set of goals and site assurance to ensure success. Techniques for design, stakeholder interaction, and best practices will be shared as part of the presentation.
