There is a rising tide of opinion around stream restoration and with that an increasing gap between general public knowledge and the science driving current stream restoration practices. The Maryland Stream Restoration Association (MSRA) members and partners recognize the need for reliable, expert, and accessible materials to educate the public, and in 2022 the MSRA board undertook a project to produce materials designed to inform concerned citizens regarding natural stream systems in a clear and relatable format. This initiative is the largest in content scope and outreach that MSRA has produced to date, and had many lessons learned along the way. During the discussion, we will present the materials produced by this project, and our efforts to share this information with Maryland communities and interested organizations. We’ll also offer MSRA’s suggestions for the concept generation, budgeting and funding, production, and management of similar projects for the future.
