Habitat Assessment and Restoration Professionals (HARP)

Over the past 28 years, HARP vegetation specialists have reviewed 1000’s of stream and wetland restoration planting plans. Many plans have been well thought out, and others not so much so.  In this presentation, HARP personnel will discuss pointers to an overall good planting plan with good biodiversity and some common sense species selection. We will address the form of plants that lend themselves to better success, i.e., live stakes, tubelings, bare roots, container planting, etc., and where within the landscape each form of plant should be utilized for the most favorable results. We will also address what not to do when creating planting plans and specs.  HARP will address the need for more communication between designers and native nurseries to ensure the species that are spec’d are available. If time allows, HARP will discuss cost-saving measures in the selection of plants and the form of plants that are chosen.
