Construction: The Benefits of Having a Designated Specialist

The Designated Specialist has an important role in the construction process.  The primary role of the DS will be to accurately interpret the construction documents, provide guidance to the contractor, and keep the engineer informed of progress. As well the DS should look ahead to try and foresee any potential issues with the plans or construction process. For this role the DS needs to be thoroughly familiar with the design/plan set and familiar with stream restoration construction techniques.

The presentation will discuss the benefits of having a DS on-site during the construction process.  I would discuss my role on-site, the importance of communication, how we document the construction process, and share some lessons learned while being a DS.
