Workshop Description:
Urbanization, climate change, invasive species, and other global change drivers continue to threaten our stream, wetland, and shoreline ecosystems. To date, many restoration projects are either narrowly focused or fail to meet their intended goals. These projects highlight the importance of having interdisciplinary teams to create sustainable and robust restoration projects. In this special session, we discuss the history and trajectory of stream restoration in Maryland and the current push for more holistic restoration approaches that benefit. We will highlight various case studies and discuss the successes and lessons learned from restoration practice in coastal plain from diverse perspectives. Our group of presenters represents the non-profit, practitioner, policy, science, and contractor sectors of restoration. In the first half of the session, speakers will discuss their role and career in restoration and present project case studies, successes and pitfalls, and what they think is needed to find common ground. During the second half of the session, speakers and audience members will discuss prompts related to the state and future of restoration practice, science, and policy in breakout groups.
