Adapting UAV technology to the Rosgen Stream Classification System

William Whitehead, PhD

UAV technologies have the potential to transform how data is collected in stream restoration projects. The Rosgen stream classification system is widely accepted in the industry, a systematic look at how UAV technology can be included in this system will be presented in this breakout session.  Using Rosgen's texts (WARSSS, Field Guide, and Forms and Workshetts), a realistic use of current UAV technology will be assessed, with examples of  recording and assessment goals addressed with UAVs.  While every aspect of WARSSS cannot be addressed in this session, ways of adapting and producing datasets compatible with current fieldwork techniques will be presented. It is assumed that participates will have a basic knowledge of UAV data collection, but it is not required to attend this session.
